Ms. Patty Adams - Instructional Technology
The Technology teacher’s main job is to put technology in the hands of the students and to support teachers with integrating technology into their lesson plans. She does the troubleshooting on the school level and updates the webpage. She is also in charge of the school news production, WKES. The computer lab provides every child with the opportunity to work on a computer. Lessons are taught to provide students with a solid foundation of the computer/technology skills needed for future learning. In addition, each classroom has personal computers, Internet access and networked software so that students can routinely use computers. During computer class, some of the areas covered are computer terminology, keyboarding skills, mouse skills, software skills and proper Internet usage. In addition, students will produce the products required by the new Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS).
The internet and software program activities are used to reinforce the grade level curriculum guided by the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS). Students are encouraged to learn about technology with a “hands-on”method in a safe, fun and educational environment.
Mobile computer labs are available for classroom use in each pod and a fully outfitted computer lab puts technology in the hands of students. By using the lab, students are able to acquire computer skills and teachers are able to integrate technology into the curriculum more effectively. A SMART Board is available in each classroom for student use.
Internet use is allowed with close teacher supervision. In addition, The Dawson County School system has a“block” to keep Internet use student friendly. Students use the Internet to complete research, do web quests, access educational games and other various activities that complement the classroom curriculum. Parents who do not wish for their child to use the Internet must request and complete the Internet Restriction Request form from the principal each year. Once completed, the form will be kept on file at the school and alternate assignments will be provided whenever Internet use is an integral part of the unit. Although an alternate assignment will be given, the assignment cannot approximatethe actual use of the Internet.
Our goal is to emphasize 21st-century skills to give students the push they need to be competitive in future learning.
